On July 3, 2012 the biggest air carrier of Italy – Alitalia performed first regular flight from Tbilisi to Rome. Air Company will launch flights from Tbilisi International Airport to Fiumicino Airport twice a week, on Tuesdays and Sundays. The flights from Tbilisi Airport will be performed by Airbus A320 at 05:00 am by local time. Duration of the flight from Tbilisi to Italy’s capital will be approximately 4 hours.

The fact, that during the first half of 2012, four World’s well-known Air companies started to operate in Tbilisi International Airport, proves that Georgia has become an attractive country for foreign tourists and businessmen. On the other hand, Georgian citizens will be able to travel to numerous European cities, without using the transit routes.” – stated TAV Georgia’s General Manager Mete Erkal.
Italy’s national carrier Alitalia is the biggest air company in Italy and 19th in the World. Its modern fleet consists of 146 aircrafts, plus 21 orders. Alitalia, including flights operated by its subsidiary Air One Smart Carrier serves 86 destinations; 27 domestic and 59 international, in 40 countries. Alitalia was nominated as Europe's most punctual airline in 2010 and as one of the world's five most punctual airlines in 2011.
Concerning the Alitalia’s first flight, a welcome ceremony was held in Tbilisi International Airports, arrival hall. Together with TAV Georgia’s management, the first passengers arriving from Rome were greeted by the representatives of Alitalia and other honorable guests. Specially invited music band, performed Italian melodies for the invited guests.
